The day couldn’t have been finer, Daniel thought as he stepped out of his apartment. It was too good to spend in doors. He might have felt sore from working at the bakery and with Maybelle all week but he couldn’t resist going out on such a beautiful day. Daniel walked down the block smiling. It was quiet but that was the norm in lochesh. Stacey made enough noise to make up for it singing behind Daniel and floating excitingly as they got closer to the park. Daniel was going to enjoy his small picnic. He had to admit it had been a while since he had one.
Gloria dropped her books reaching over to stop poppy from falling off her shoulder. “Oh you naughty little Pokemon.” She said aloud as she adjusted him and looked at the mess of books. She knew taking the route through the park was a bad idea and the books she just finished checking out were paying for it. Poppy started to slip off again reaching up. ‘What are you reaching for?’ She wondered as she adjusted him again. Lacey atop her head began to chirp happily as she flew off. Gloria raised her hand when she saw Lacey fly off, “Lacey!” She stood up wondering where the Pokemon was flying off to. Gloria let a sigh of relief when she saw the familiar face.
Danny was a bit stunned to see Lacey fly atop of his shoulder. He could recognize the chirp and her size. There was no mistaking the pudgy little Pokemon. Danny looked around and finally spotted Gloria. Daniel helped gloria with her books and invited her to his picnic noticing that Lacey was eager for a treat. Daniel and Gloria caught up for the week and shared some laughs. The didn’t use sign as much noticing that even with their handicaps they could still communicate very well. Daniel felt like he had a voice again and Gloria felt like she could really hear him.
The day had cooled off and the sun was beginning to set. Daniel walked beside Gloria holding her books as she held her two overstuffed Pokemon. Daniel set down the books when they had arrived at Gloria’s apartment. Gloria smiled and looked over, “Thanks for the picnic it was really nice.” Daniel smiled and said his soundless words, ‘Thank you for keeping me company. Good night Gloria.’ Daniel waved and started to walk off. Gloria watched him take a few steps before running over and hugging him from behind. She didn’t say anything and Daniel smiled. Gloria wished she could show him how much it meant for her to have him as a friend but the way Daniel saw her as he waved bye again she thought maybe he did. Daniel continued to wave happily at the young woman. It filled his heart with glee seeing the smile on her face. Stacey next to him teasing him about his blush but he pretended to ignore her.
